The
Inquiry Stage
The
first step in discernment, is for a single Catholic
man, who wishes to learn more about the religious life
before making a vocational decision.
During
the Inquiry Stage:
-There is continual communication between men who have
expressed interest and the Brothers of St. John of God.
-Acquaint you with our community through telephone calls
and mailings.
-Maintain regular contact and help you in your discernment.
-Invite you to visit our communities.
-Recommend recent books and articles on the religious
life to help you become more knowledgeable about our
values.
-Stay in communication with us.
-Make an effort to meet our vocation director and visit
one of our communities.
-Continue gathering information that will help you with
your decision.
-Indicate, on a yearly basis, your interest in continuing
as an inquirer with our community.
Some
persons choose to spend their lives sharing a human
project more enduring than themselves. The project shapes
their attitudes and feelings and infuses those persons
with a new purpose. With the project comes the taste
of a new reality and the discovery that there are others
who share the same vision.
For
over 500 years, persons have experienced the joy of
something greater by giving the gift of self to the
service of God and neighbour as Brothers of Saint John
of God.
We
are a Roman Catholic religious community, founded in
the 16th century, living and working in the spirit and
traditions of John of God.
John of God Brothers can be found in the following ministries:
hospital, aged care, disabled people, foreign missions,
home care, counseling - personal, marriage, crisis,
, hospital chaplaincies, clerical and administrative
work, and work with those on the edges of society.
We
are a world wide organization serving in some fifty-
two countries.
If
you believe that God is calling you to serve, and if
you are seriously considering giving your life to the
service of God as a St. John of God Brother, we invite
you to join us in our community of prayer and ministry.
The following may help your discernment of God's call:
Praying
and asking God's help, light, grace and the courage
it takes to leave everything to follow Christ.
Discussing
your call with your spiritual director as soon as possible.
